Gissel Chavez, aka G, grew up surrounded by music. During school she was involved in choir, wind ensemble, jazz band, and marching band. G poured her creativity and love into these classes which became the foundation of her life. Her fascination with music was nourished by her high school band teacher, who set the example of what it looks like to connect with students when teaching music. This inspired G to become a music teacher and give to others what her band teacher gave to her. Her teaching philosophy is to explore the curiosity of her students to create an environment where music can turn from an interest to a passion.

Outside of teaching, G fronts her band, Hometown Jade, as the vocalist and keys player. In Hometown Jade she explores universal experiences in a tasteful manner through introspective lyrics and captivating instrumentation.
